wx86 : Microsft Windows

Which computer

Each of these variations emulates a different Macintosh, instead of the Macintosh Plus emulated by the standard version. Note that they require different ROM images to work.

Variation 20 : umch wx86

"-m 128K"
emulate Macintosh 128K

Variation 21 : umch wx86

"-m 128K -mem 512K"
emulate Macintosh 512K

Variation 22 : umch wx86

"-m 512Ke"
emulate Macintosh 512Ke

Variation 23 : umch wx86

"-m SE"
emulate Macintosh SE

Variation 24 : umch wx86

"-m SEFDHD"
emulate Macintosh SE FDHD

Variation 25 : umch wx86

"-m Classic"
emulate Macintosh Classic

Variation 26 : umch wx86

"-m II -depth 3"
emulate Macintosh II

warning : the Macintosh II emulation is incomplete, and will remain incomplete for all 3.1.x releases. This is not a matter of bugs - some critical pieces of the hardware are just not emulated at all, and any software that tries to use them will crash. Bug reports about what doesn't work are of no help to me. On the other hand, the success of the Mini vMac Variations would likely make a major difference in how fast the Macintosh II emulation is completed.

Some software does work though. One trick to get this to work at all is to install the system software in the Macintosh Plus emulation, being sure to install as "universal".

Variation 27 : umch wx86

"-m IIx -depth 3"
emulate Macintosh IIx

This variation accepts a Macintosh IIx ROM, but for now just emulates the Macintosh II hardware. This is useful because a Macintosh II can be hard to find. The Macintosh IIcx, the Macintosh II FDHD, and the Macintosh SE/30 all have the same ROM as the Macintosh IIx. Also, see all the warnings for Variation 26.

Screen Resolution

These variations hack the ROM of the Macintosh Plus to change the screen size. This is very much a hack, and not all software is compatible with it, particularly old games.

First, some common old Macintosh screen sizes :

Variation 100 : umch wx86

"-hres 512 -vres 384"
Screen resolution : 512 x 384

Variation 101 : umch wx86

"-hres 640 -vres 480"
Screen resolution : 640 x 480

Variation 102 : umch wx86

"-hres 800 -vres 600"
Screen resolution : 800 x 600

Variation 103 : umch wx86

"-hres 1024 -vres 768"
Screen resolution : 1024 x 768

Next, common current screen sizes, but divided by two, so can use Magnify in full screen :

Variation 100 : umch wx86

"-hres 512 -vres 384"
Screen resolution : half 1024 x 768 (= 512 x 384, so list Variation 100 again)
XGA

Variation 110 : umch wx86

"-hres 640 -vres 400"
Screen resolution : half 1280 x 800
WXGA, such as for MacBook and MacBook Air

Variation 111 : umch wx86

"-hres 640 -vres 512"
Screen resolution : half 1280 x 1024
SXGA

Variation 112 : umch wx86

"-hres 704 -vres 450"
Screen resolution : half 1440 x 900, with width constrained to multiple of 32
Such as for 15-inch MacBook Pro

Variation 113 : umch wx86

"-hres 832 -vres 525"
Screen resolution : half 1680 x 1050, with width constrained to multiple of 32
WSXGA+, such as for 20-inch iMac

Variation 114 : umch wx86

"-hres 960 -vres 540"
Screen resolution : half 1920 x 1080
1080p

Variation 115 : umch wx86

"-hres 960 -vres 600"
Screen resolution : half 1920 x 1200
WUXGA, such as for 17-inch MacBook Pro or 24-inch iMac or 24-inch Apple LED Cinema Display
