Mini vMac

Wish List

(Previous items from this list are on the Wishes Granted page. Thank you, sponsors!)

Gas

remaining cost: $10.00
sponsors: none yet (Gas sponsored 2 times previously)

I have arranged a place that I can go occasionally to work on Mini vMac without distraction for 5 to 7 days (and also cat sit). I can borrow a car to get there. But gas still needs to be paid for.

Food

remaining cost: $40.00
sponsors: Timothy Scoles (Food sponsored 1 time previously)

Mac mini

remaining cost: $599.00
sponsors: none yet

Would allow supporting 64 bit Intel versions of Mini vMac. (My current main machine is an early Intel Mac Mini, which does not support 64 bit.) 64 bits would not in itself benefit Mini vMac, but the different architecture provides more registers which may.

A 64 bit Linux version could be compiled immediately. A 64 bit Windows might also be possible without purchasing additional software. A 64 bit Mac version would first require porting to Cocoa.

The additional speed and dual processor cores would also be helpful.

4GB memory option for Mac mini

remaining cost: $100.00
sponsors: none yet

Windows 7 is said to require 2GB for the 64 bit version. Snow Leopard is said to require 1GB. So to run Windows 7 in VMware Fusion on Snow Leopard, it is probably best to have at least 4GB.

Apple Keyboard

remaining cost: $49.00
sponsors: none yet

I strongly prefer keyboards without a numeric keypad, so that there is less distance to the mouse. Unfortunately they are rare, and I want to encourage Apple for making one. The Apple keyboard is quieter and requires less force than my current Happy Hacker Lite. Having two keyboards would mean less stuff to cart around between the two locations where I do most work on Mini vMac. And a quieter keyboard would be better for late night work at one of the locations.

Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium Upgrade

remaining cost: $117.49
sponsors: none yet

Would allow better support of this OS version.

One of the ways to help the Mini vMac project is to sponsor one of the items listed at left. Click on the "Donate" button for an item to donate with PayPal, and your donation will be used to purchase that item.

I'll add your name to the list of sponsors for that item. If you wish to be anonymous, or use a name different than what is on your PayPal account, say so in the "optional comments" field. In this field you may also specify a URL (web page address) that you would like your name to link to. If you can't find this field or have any other problems, just send me a note afterwards.

The donate button on the main Help Mini vMac page is equivalent to letting me choose one of the donate buttons on this page. That is, such donations will be used for one or more items on the Wish List. And the "optional comments" field can be used in the same way as described above.

If you donate more for an item than the remaining cost, I'll apply the rest to some other item on the Wish List. Or, if you prefer, specify a second choice in the "optional comments" field. This can happen if two people donate at about the same time, or if the price has gone down since I last revised the page. (Prices on Amazon change often.)
