VMware Fusion 4 Upgrade

sponsors: Peter Godwin, andrew macfarlane
funded: January 16, 2012; ordered: January 16; received: January 18

Most Mini vMac development for Linux and Windows is done with VMware Fusion. (Thanks to previous donations for VMware Fusion 3.) The new version 4 supports virtualization of OS X, which has been very useful in version 3 even though unsupported and only sort of working.

Gas

ASUS Netbook

sponsors: Zebadiah Kimmel, Greg Lee
ordered: July 22, 2010; received: July 27, 2010

Will encourage improving the Windows and Linux versions of Mini vMac. (I've set it up to dual boot.) Using this as one of my primary computers is a different experience than briefly using Windows and Linux in VMware Fusion. It has already lead to improvements in Mini vMac for working on small screens, and for conserving battery.

This netbook supports the 64 bit instructions set, allowing Mini vMac to be optimized for this eventually. But currently a straight compile would most likely be slower than the 32 bit version, which has been optimized in assembly language.

Apple Keyboard

sponsors: Zebadiah Kimmel, Iván dominguez martin
ordered: April 6, 2010; received: April 13, 2010

I strongly prefer keyboards without a numeric keypad, so that there is less distance to the mouse. Unfortunately they are rare, and I want to encourage Apple for making one. The Apple keyboard is quieter and requires less force than my current Happy Hacker Lite. Having two keyboards would mean less stuff to cart around between the two locations where I do most work on Mini vMac. And a quieter keyboard would be better for late night work at one of the locations.

Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium Upgrade

sponsors: Mini vMac Variations activations, Andrew Johnstone
received: December 22, 2009

Would allow better support of this OS version. I think it should also allow supporting a 64 bit Windows version of Mini vMac.

Living expenses for one day's programming

sponsors: Leon Buijs
funded: December 12, 2009; used: March 24, 2010

So that I can spend one day developing Mini vMac. To be used for food, rent, insurance, and utilities. (For a day on which I have at least 8 hours available for work.)

1 TB USB Hard Drive

sponsors: Andrew Johnstone, Steve Waddell, Evan Appelman, Stephen Kluskens, Jonathan Ploudre, Zheng Yang
ordered: December 10, 2009; received: December 14, 2009

For holding dozens of VMware virtual machines, for testing Mini vMac with different operating systems and development environments.

Headphones

sponsors: Jonathan Ploudre
funded: November 8, 2009; ordered: November 10; received: November 16

For checking emulation of sound. My current headphones are failing.

VMware Fusion 3 Upgrade

sponsors: Pedro Maciel, Greg Lee, ClockWise of E-Maculation
obtained: November 4, 2009

Is supposed to better support Snow Leopard and Windows 7. I use VMware Fusion for all Windows and Linux development.

Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard

sponsors: ClockWise of E-Maculation
obtained: October 24, 2009

Allows better support of this OS version, which will make me more comfortable about officially releasing Mini vMac 3.1.3 as the stable version. Also allows better support for Xcode 3.2, which requires Snow Leopard.
